redmed is off in Minnesota, preparing to be questioned by lawyers regarding a case in which she is not even named.

On Friday, I was feeling low-energy, so I called a friend to ask if he wanted to grab some quick food. “Come meet us at Friday’s!” he yelled over the roar of a drunken crowd. Foolishly, I joined them at Friday’s. The life of the party was this guy who apparently works as a bouncer at some of the upscale places in Providence. He was maybe 25, and had a rough and ready look that drew all the cute waitresses over to sit by him in turns. Needless to say, our glasses stayed full without having to ask … and I wound up staying out later than I had planned.

Hauled my sorry self out of bed later than I would have liked on Saturday, showered, and drove north to meet up with and . I brought up a couple of fires worth of firewood, and they unloaded a nice shop vac into my car. Person with the house holds the shop vac. If at some point, I’m renting and they’re owning, they can totally have it back. We took the T into the heart of the beast, looking for The Place, where the University of Michigan Alumni Club of Greater Boston (UMACGB, as they’re sometimes known) had rented out a room for the watching of the Ohio State / Michigan game. We found it, along with some other michigan folks, but it was jammed wall to wall with standing people sloshing beer on each other. Being old and grouchy, we settled in a bar next door, where we shared a room with some nice folks from UVA, who were watching their team get absolutely drubbed by VA Tech. Final score was something like 54 to 14 in that game. The UM/OSU game was the by-now-standard disappointment, in which UM threw away a commanding lead in the final minutes of the game.

We returned to the apartment, where I was introduced to Katamari Damacy, which is a lovely and strange game for the PS2. Basically, you roll a ball around, getting stuff to stick to it. When the ball is small, only small things stick. Sushi, clocks, ping pong balls, etc. As it grows, the view zooms out and you’re able to pick up larger things. Cows, cars, trains, people, islands, etc. It’s totally cute, friendly, and has perky Japanese music in the background.

My dinner plans in Providence fell through, so I headed south … but as usual I managed to get thoroughly lost on the way out of Boston. When I got home, I was exhausted, but sat up way too late watching episodes of Galactica.

So now it’s Sunday morning, I woke up late again, and I’m trying to convince myself that I should go crawl around in the crawl space under the house, spreading plastic so that (a) the basement won’t smell quite as much like dirt (b) the cats won’t poop there. Somehow, puttering on the internet sounds like much more fun.
