Phone wars

I don’t deal well with phone support people. Take that back, it’s the broader category of “moron” with which I have problems. Narrowing it back down, it’s “morons who are in my way, and have a little recipe that I have to dance through before they’ll let me pass” that really bug the crap out of me.

Please help me.

I own a base station, model number 2461. When I purchased it, several years ago, I purchased two expansion handsets, both model 2420. These all work great. Thank you.

Recently, I ordered from your online store (order 8960241) an additional expansion handset, model 20-2420. I received the handset, and it refused to connect to the base station. I spoke with two people on your service / support phone lines, neither of whom had any idea what I was talking about. I'm not convinced that they have ever actually seen one of these "telephones" that I described to them. Finally, I read through the manual and guessed that the 20-2420 was the incorrect model of handset, since it supports two lines, while my base is a single line system. I realized that I had ordered the incorrect handset, and I'm trying to correct that mistake.

I wrote a letter on August 17 describing my situation and requesting a model 2420 (as well as authorizing that the difference in price and shipping costs be charged to my original credit card), and shipped it with the expansion handset back to VTech. I called after delivery of the package was confirmed by UPS, and again was unable to get any useful information. I was simply assured that my "replacement" would be processed within two weeks. When I protested that I didn't want a replacement unless it was a model that would work with my base station, I was met with total confusion.

I resolved to wait and hope.

This afternoon, I received (from VTech) a model 2600 expansion handset which does not work with my base station (model 2461).

Please help me. I need an expansion handset which will work with my base station. If VTech has any of the model 2420's left, I know that those work well. I'm willing to pay.

If VTech does not have any more of these, I can search online. Just let me know.

Thanks.
