God I needed that.

My yoga practice is growing easier.

Went back to Thrive Yoga for the Vinyassa class. I deliberately chose a front corner, where I would have fewer distractions from the rest of the class, and I settled into a flow much more easily than I have in the past. Previously, I’ve tried to hide in the back corner. I think I see the appeal of the front row, now.

Today’s revelation (strictly inside my own head, of course) was “reverse your understanding,” followed by a series of examples. It amounts to cocking my head to one side while looking at my beliefs. Just as much as I’m allowed to give compassion to the world, I’m also allowed to accept compassion for my own. Just as much as my awareness is an emergent process on top of my body, so perhaps my body might be (accurately) described as an emergent process based on my awareness.

Seriously.

In either event, the awareness is unmeasurable by anyone but me, so the empiricists in the room have to admit that they were just kidding about that whole “consciousness is an emergent property” thing … unless they’re prepared to measure it. Given that, then one explanation is just as good as another. More to the point, you can’t have one without the other.

And, of course, this class is taught by the lady who readjusts your spine during savastina. Crunch, poppity snap!
