So I’m playing Halo 2 and it’s a “pistol” slayer match, which means that the action is pretty up close and personal … but very quick. It’s a small map, so the other seven players and I are constantly running into each other (and blowing the snot out of each other along the way).
At one point I heard the minigun on the jeep in the map roar to life. Knowing that where I was standing was in one of the clear firing lanes for the starting position of the jeep, I ducked into an alcove and waited for the moment to pass. See, when you saddle up on one of the stationary weapons in this game (the fixed gun on the jeep counts as “stationary” for purposes of my story) it doesn’t last long. You can’t aim as fast, you can’t move, and it takes a good second or two to dismount. Plus, they make lots of noise. So you’ve got a very dangerous but noisy, stationary target that is suddenly the least popular guy in the game. Now, if you’ve got a team to cover you, or someone to *drive* the jeep … it’s a different story.
Anyway, I’m hanging out for a second or two, waiting for someone to silence the gun, and I hear a grenade go off about the right distance away. The minigun stops. I’m about to step out.
Then I hear the player who ‘naded the jeep say, in a perfect Beavis voice: “Step out of the car, sir.”
It made me laugh.
