We went to an end-of-season party for the scratch farm last night. It was a festive affair, and people brought all sorts of food and drink. My carrot wine was an unexpected hit … and people were demanding that I write down the recipe for them. It was sort of flattering. The sauerkraut was also well received … prompting one conversation about the difference between my family recipe (cabbage, salt, and time) and that of a woman at the party (cabbage, salt, time, spices, onions, garlic …). This seems to have been an intro to the whole natural-foods scene in Providence.

Now I’ve been exchanging emails with people from the party, and we’ve been invited to go carve pumpkins at a local greenhouse.

New friends – How wonderful.
