After getting home from my usual workout last night, I settled in to watch The Money Pit with Jen. Sometime in the first few minutes of the film, I felt the muscle just a little bit centralized from my right shoulder blade curl itself into a tight knot of pain. This has happened in the past, and I’m familiar with the progression.
First, the drugs. Popped an ibuprofin.
Now, onto traditional healing methods. I got the microwavable beanbag that we keep for such occasions, heated it up, and rested it around my neck. Great. Now I’m warm and in pain. I did a couple of stretches that came to mind: ear to opposite shoulder (really, head inclined about 5 degrees because the muscle does *not* want to allow that motion), right hand up and over the head, wrapping to the left side (supposedly shortening the muscle and hoping that it will decide to release). Jen also helped out by applying traction (pulling down on the arm to gently stretch the muscle).
Still, sleep was not great last night, and now I feel like I’m spending one cycle out of three paying attention to my shoulder.
I’m aware that, with a cramp as the extent of my recurring physical ailments, I should shut up and count my blessings.
Still, very ouch.
