I’m just tired of these cheese eaters at Verizon. I can’t even summon the energy to rage at them anymore.
When last we spoke, they had sent me a bill that was easily $100 too much, because they mixed up the services I wanted. I had expressed to three different support people that I would happily pay for the service I ordered, but only after they provided me with an accurate bill. This could happen over the phone, via email, or through the mail.
I got my bill today. Seemingly no change, except for an additional months worth of charges.
I called up the phone support person, and was told that my account was past due and was in danger of being shut down. I asked her what the correct amount was. She says it’s all on the bill. Looking more closely, there’s some funk-tastic number movin’ in there…with negative numbers totaling almost $100. I can almost believe that it’s close to right, though it would have been simpler to understand if they had given me “old service charge, reversed!” and then “new service charge!”
Anyway, I dropped a check in the mail. Who cares, anyway? If they mess with me in any way, shape, or form for late fees, I’m going to go down there and be like Milton from “Office Space” on their asses.
I verified that (1) I have a credit of $155 from my previous account (2) the easiest way to use that money to pay this bill would be to get a check from Verizon-MN and then send money to Verizon-RI. Whatever. They can all dance a happy dance for all I care. I’ve fired them for DSL, I’m about to fire them for land line phone service (go VoIP!) and as soon as another network can touch the coverage of Verizon, I will pay the $175 to get out of my contract early.
In other news, work is kicking my ass. I started the day yesterday with 20 support requests. I ended it 12 hours later with 25 support requests outstanding. It was like fighting the Hydra, mythical beast of yore, who would sprout two new heads every time you cut one off. Spent today at MIT and encountered every single install bug that I’ve ever seen with our system…plus two new ones that would have been impossible to diagnose over the phone. Tonight I tune up a new parallel BLAST thingamabob (parallelizing over the query set, rather than the target…thanks for asking) so that we can walk through it tomorrow.
On the good side, Jen gets home tonight from her conference in MN. That’ll be good. I get lonely when she’s away too long.
