International news

Hey, don’t we still have, like, 300,000 troops deployed to Iraq? Is there still a war on or something over there? There’s a lot of blah blah blah from the candidates about some kinda war or something … but I hear disturbingly little about the third of a million troops who are in harms way right now.

And also, speaking of security: Weren’t we gonna, like, do something to help out Afghanistan or something … since long term suffering seems to be the primary breeding ground for people willing to kill themselves to try to get back at the perceived source of that suffering.

And ummmm, is that Osama guy still on the loose? Because, wasn’t he like, the evil mastermind behind the attacks of Sept 11? I mean, seriously, to paraphrase Jesse Ventura: We can’t find a 6 foot 6 Saudi guy on dialysis, who is banned for life from his home country? Seriously? Even with all the future-toys at the CIA and the NSA?

Enough about that, what’s up with those monks who were grabbed by the Burma Myanmar government? How about the ones grabbed by the Tibetan Chinese troops? Were we going to help out with the food riots in Darfur Haiti, or something?

I should *not* be permitted to read the news. It only depresses me.

— UPDATE —

Seriously, not even the business section.

Top headline: “Bank of America writes off $2 billion, and announces a 77 percent drop in earnings”

Second Headline: “Halliburton 1Q profit rises on higher sales, asset sale”

Haliburton … weren’t they somehow connected with that “war” thing before? What ever happened with them and the billions of dollars of mismanaged money?
