Update

It seems I haven’t been posting very much lately. It’s not so much that I’m overly busy, as that I’m grouchy.

The garden is doing well. The first cherry tomatoes of the season are red and ripe. Ever so tasty to just eat them right off the vine. The cabbage is still only making the world’s weakest attempt at forming heads. I think they may be decorative this year. In perhaps the most exciting news, I have confirmation as to the variety of one of the pepper plants. It’s a cayenne. The others are still generic, having produced no peppers yet. That probably makes the habaneros, since jalapenos tend to come on pretty early. Yay!

We’ve got lots of birds these days. A small flock of goldfinches eat outside the dining room window. Sometimes a mourning dove comes and sits on the feeder-hanger above them … since she can’t actually sit on the feeder itself. Mourning doves are astonishingly dumb. This one sometimes seems to poop on the finches as they eat. Then they get irate. Finch rage. It’s very cute. On the other feeders we’ve got woodpeckers, grackles, cardinals, titmice, chickadees, and nuthatches. I’ve seen the chickadee drinking out of the hummingbird feeder. At least it gets some use that way.

redmed is off to Bar Harbor to hang out with her parents (who are on vacation) for the extended weekend. I wish I could go, but work calls. I’m doing a training gig in Boston on Monday, and on Tuesday I fly down to Norfolk, VA for a two day gig with NASA. Cluster building. These folks are worried about the 128 TB (that’s “terabyte”) limit on their storage array. I shared that the new limit is 2 PB (that’s “petabyte”) and they were elated. Gonna be fun.

Made bread and butter pickles yesterday, but didn’t get them canned, because it’s too damn hot. They’re in the fridge, waiting for a day that doesn’t inspire words like “swelter”, so I can boil a gallon of water and preserve them.

That seems like plenty.
