Just signed up for a summer’s worth of produce from Scratch Farm in RI. I paid $500 to sign up for about a half bushel of veggies, once a week, from June 15 – October 26. I also have to work for at least four hours at either the farm itself, or at the distribution site. Along the way, I discovered Farm Fresh, RI, which lists a whole bunch of local farms that produce, well, farm stuff. I think that this rocks.
Driving down to Princeton, NJ today to do some work for Big Pharma. Should be fun. I like the team down there. On the other hand, this is my first time installing the new version of our software … and it’s on a monstrous SMP machine running some hairy version of Linux, so I’ll need to build everything from scratch. Yay, work!
After finishing up that gig on Friday, I plan to head to Baltimore to see my brother’s collegiate environment. Back here on Sunday for a much needed weeken … oop … guess not. This will make four consecutive weekends away. I grow weary.
This morning we saw a Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) munching from the suet feeder. That’s one large bird for my little suet feeder. She was, like, twice the size of the little woodpeckers that usually grace us with their presence. I wish I had time to build a nest box this morning.
My bell peppers have finally freakin’ germinated … and the outdoor onions, peas, kale, and radishes are up and in need of thinning. In perhaps more exciting news, I have planted hop rhyzomes along the back fence. Hopefully I’ll be able to make some truly home grown ale this fall! More likely, the squirrels will get a hoppy, bitter snack this morning.
Whatever. Gotta go pack.
