  • In Memoriam

We had the memorial service for my mom this weekend. details

  • Normal?

Returning to RI, via Washington National. It appears that the flight information boards and displays are offline right now, so there’s a teensy bit of chaos here. http://cnn.com says: details

  • Not feelin’ it.

Man, I was suffused with energy earlier in the week. Sparks flying around my head. Now, I’m just not feelin’ it. I’m in Richmond a few hours prior to amnesiadust‘s arrival, trying to get a couple of small tasks done for work … and it’s just not happening. The brain fog is back, with a vengeance.

  • Long day

Finished my paper today. It was supposed to be done months ago. We need to learn not to even bother putting me on these long-term paper writing things. Too easy to get sidetracked by day to day “urgent” stuff, and totally let it go from “late” to “humiliating” all the way to the new level I discovered on this one: “albatross.”

We cleaned the school house and set up chairs. We’re going to have somewhere between 10 and 100 people show up. We’ve got cookies.

In the evening, I took a walk on the path we’ve been carving to the back of the property. It was dark and still. Except that there were things rustling around on the ground, which I finally identified as frogs. Hundreds of little one and two inch frogs, hopping around on the ground.

    Cool.

  • Clutch, THEN shift

I’m in a Starbucks today, for the high bandwidth. I’m listening to the BOSE headphones because Starbucks music sorta sucks. Plus, the people here are super friendly … but I don’t want to talk to them … I want to work.

Anyway, “random” on itunes just did the Evil to my brain. I went right from “I’m Old Fashioned,” performed by to “Gimme Gimme” by the Lords of Acid.

My brain feels like a car thrown into reverse while going 75 on the highway. Ouch.

  • Chimes on the wind

Because of a trick of the wind, I can hear a chord in the air.

For the music geeks, it’s a B, F open fifth, with an occasional third in there. Very hollow. Very distinct.

I thought for a bit that my brother was sitting out at the gazebo, playing the prayer bowl. I wandered out there to see, and it was empty … I thought he might have gone further into the woods … it seemed louder out there … but I checked and the bowl was in its usual place. On a whim, I took the bowl and walked back along the stream, occasionally sounding the bowl. Eventually I got chilly and realized that I had wandered a fair distance back. However, thanks to the path I’ve been building, it was an easy walk.

I suspect that it’s the power plant about 2 miles away … something to do with the wires.

The stars are very beautiful tonight.

  • Hey, redmeds dad made the papers!

In other news, I’m in VA, settled in for another week of low-fi work, followed by my mom’s memorial service on Friday.

The guitars are strung, the floors are scrubbed, and we’ve got enough food to feed an army.
