  • Back to it.

Airport again. Back to Maryland for a couple of days. Stupid “take responsibility for my project” ethos … I have trouble leaving for a week in Haiti without being totally sure that my little data processing framework is stable and documented. What am I thinking?

Garden looks good. The Rhubarb is HUGE, the tomatoes and cabbages are healthy, and we ate the first radishes this weekend.

Went to sunday morning yoga and got quite the workout. One thing that I particularly appreciate about yoga is the fact that it can be made arbitrarily difficult with almost imperceptible changes in balance, posture, and even intention.

  • Home

    I’m home. Hooray.

This weekend, I plan to mow the lawn, catch up on bills, bottle the Bourbon Barrel Porter, and exercise. We go to Haiti in a week. I should probably consider the ramifications of that. It’s possible that I’ll be back in MD on Monday and Tuesday.

Also, there are 2,000 condoms, in bags of 500, sitting in the kitchen. I’m not sure what that’s about.

  • Also

Also: Dogfish head brewery has T-shirts in a style that they describe as “Husband Beater”.

    I find this endlessly amusing.

  • God I needed that.

My yoga practice is growing easier.

Went back to Thrive Yoga for the Vinyassa class. I deliberately chose a front corner, where I would have fewer distractions from the rest of the class, and I settled into a flow much more easily than I have in the past. Previously, I’ve tried to hide in the back corner. I think I see the appeal of the front row, now.

Today’s revelation (strictly inside my own head, of course) was “reverse your understanding,” followed by a series of examples. It amounts to cocking my head to one side while looking at my beliefs. Just as much as I’m allowed to give compassion to the world, I’m also allowed to accept compassion for my own. Just as much as my awareness is an emergent process on top of my body, so perhaps my body might be (accurately) described as an emergent process based on my awareness.

    Seriously.

In either event, the awareness is unmeasurable by anyone but me, so the empiricists in the room have to admit that they were just kidding about that whole “consciousness is an emergent property” thing … unless they’re prepared to measure it. Given that, then one explanation is just as good as another. More to the point, you can’t have one without the other.

And, of course, this class is taught by the lady who readjusts your spine during savastina. Crunch, poppity snap!

Went here today, and it went really well. As opposed to the two previous schools I’ve audited, these people were reasonable human beings, plus they exhibited mad skillz. The instructors were patient and thorough … and I very much like the fact that they do things in a very different technical way … but that the masters *move* in very similar ways to what I know.

They suggested, right up front, that I take a few classes to see if it fit with what I’m looking for. Based on today’s class, I may wind up signing up and getting the uniform the next time I come in.

Best complement of the day: “Okay, clearly you’ve trained before.”

Fine. Everyone else is doing it. Why not:

Leave me a comment and I’ll…
    1. Tell you why I friended think of you as a friend.
    2. Associate you with something – a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
    3. Tell you something I like about you.
    4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
    5. Associate you with a character.
    6. Ask something I’ve always wanted to know about you.
    7. Tell you my favourite user picture of yours assuming you’re on LJ.
    8. Ask you to post this in your LJ in return.

In other news, the Dogfish Head brewery has wi-fi.

Yes, I am that guy. Shut up.

Went to Ball-mer for a run and then Thai dinner with justkidding_nr. Good times.

Prior to that, changed my reservation from the Residence Inn, Frederick to the RAMADA Rockville. (Rah! Mah! Dah!) This will save about 40 minutes of driving, each way, plus it will cost less. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking … except a zombie-like chant of “Must Accumulate Marriott Rewards Points! Must Earn Free Week in Bora-Bora Villa!”

Seriously. A hotel, 40 minutes from the gig? Even *I*’m not usually that dumb.

Prior to THAT, went to Fort Deitrick to talk to some men about a cluster computer. Good times.

I’m considering going here tomorrow. It looks like a decent mix of instructors, and the school had an interesting cognitive puzzle built in … it’s tricky to find. I like the idea of a school without big blinking neon signs.

Party on Sat with technolope and capital_l. amnesiadust came to town and we brewed beer prior to the festivities.

Due to events beyond my control at said party, I’m now scheduled to have my ass kicked work out with a former Force Recon Marine over the summer.

Last night I went out with my new friend cariaso. We went To the house of a thousand beers. Then we went to a place that was mind blowingly Russian. Finally, we smoked a hookah here. It was a good time.

Rock star. Rock star, I tell you.
