  • Day

Last night was a fun time with capital_l and technolope.

Today began with raspberry pancakes using fruit picked from the backyard.

This morning will proceed to the farmers market, where I will find some fruit suitable for making a sweet “conserve,” which is a topping for breakfasts and ice creams.

If I feel spectacularly ambitious, I may attempt the cherry wine recipe that we found at my grandfather’s house in Detroit. I think it’s the one that great, great grandpa used to make. I plan to call it “Ancestral Spirits”.

Tonight, there will be dinner out as part of Providence’s “food week,” in which all the schmantzy restaurants have Prix-Fixe menus well below their usual rates.

Tomorrow morning, we plan to head to the church of two-hour yoga.

On monday, I will be in Maryland, building out high performance computing infrastructure.

    Rock star, I tell you.

  • Marketing, branding, media, message.

Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket.
    George Orwell

  • Harry Potter movie

We went to see the new Harry Potter movie last night. I liked it a lot. Oddly, I liked it as in, “I like this work of cinema,” not “Oh yes! More cheese in a genre that I like!”

In which I talk about the details of a movie you may not have seen yet

  • Life

How’s life going, you may ask? Where are the long, involved, rambling, and totally self absorbed posts these days? Well, I’ve been home for a solid week … and I almost feel that I have my feet back on the ground. The grass is mowed, the refrigerator is stocked, and I’m feeling pretty good.

Went to karate last night, and we did speed and agility drills. At my school, that sometimes works out to playing football for about an hour. In the process, I got muscled around by a *big* 14 year old who plays high school football. I have these vague memories of not playing football because I was too scrawny. Yeah … I haven’t *ever* been blocked like this kid blocked me. I would like to say that I gave as good as I got … but he basically shut me down for a solid hour … and I was pushing hard.

The garden is looking good. My tomatoes are reddening, and the cabbages are forming heads.

Work is work, life is life, and things continue.

  • Twitch …

The ad said “They’re giant fuzzy animals. Hug them.” I clicked on it and got Squishable.com.

To the eternal shame of my masculine, karate doing, beer brewing, rock climbing side … they actually sort of appeal to me.

I mean, they come with a note that says “I like you.” What’s better than that?

  • FLYING CAR!!!!

    I want my flying car.

Naturally, I also demand that it be electric

  • Life

Let’s try to do a bit better, shall we?

After all, we’re all in this together.

  • Home

    I am home.

I have driven about 32 hours out of the past 9 days.

I have the best attempt at a tan that I’m likely to have in the next several years.

My throat is sore with a cold given to me by a three year old.

Now, I plan to go play God of War 2 for a little while, have a beer, and then sleep in my very own bed.

  • Sky

I drive a crappy Canon point-n-shoot camera. Not one of those badass ones that technolope and aerospcgrl have. Thus, it’s slightly more difficult for me to get badass lightning photographs. Fortunately, the sky was basically on fire last night, and even my primitive hack job to get two second exposures was sufficient to get me these.

For reference, the thing at the bottom with the lights is the pier, just up the beach.
