I just slept, like, 11 hours. I feel awesome. Or at least, I feel less like poo. Here’s a long babble about my credit card company (MBNA):<\/p>\n
My primary credit card expires January of 2005. That means that it’ll be dead in about 20 days, give or take. I called them up and told them that my recurring payments wanted to know if I would be canceling service or giving them a new number. It seemed as if the credit card company was surprised by my request, but they put a new card in the mail to me today, at least in theory. Then came the part that I didn’t like so much. <\/p>\n
The guy on the phone said “Are you aware of our great rates on transfer balances?” <\/p>\n
I responded “I’m not consolidating any of my debt to that card.” <\/p>\n
He didn’t get it. “I see that you’ve got some additional revolving debt here (my furniture purchase). I’m certain that we can do better than the interest rate they’ve got you at.” <\/p>\n
Me: “I’m not consolidating any of my debt onto your card.” <\/p>\n
He: “Can I ask why you’re not interested in saving some money here?”<\/p>\n
Me: “No. I’ve had a bad experience with sharing the details of my finances with my credit card company. This is the right decision for me, and I have a lot more information at hand than you do. Therefore I am not consolidating any of my debt onto your card.<\/em> There is no chance of this happening. You are wasting your time.”<\/p>\n Him: “I do actually have a lot of information here in front of me and…”<\/p>\n The conversation closed shortly after that. My core problem with this is that this guy, one of hundreds like him in a room, can pull up my info and see all of this crap. My furniture store “no payments until 2006”, my mortgage, all of it. That creeps me out. Besides that, we have my strong aversion to being “sold” on anything (why can’t we just interact like adults! Oh wait…there’s no market share in that).<\/p>\n Anyone know of a credit card company that’s willing to deal with me as I wish to be treated, or is dealing with nincompoops like this the cost I pay for the convenience of plastic?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I just slept, like, 11 hours.
