I glanced back at the 2005 entry for Jan 1. The salient bit (which still holds true, by the way) was:

Me, this morning: “So this is 2005, huh?”
Jen: “At least it’s sunny.”

The party last night rocked. It started off slow, with just us and the hosts there. Andy (man of the house, Australian) and I bonded by starting a fire, and then there was small chit-chat. Another couple showed up, and there was more chit-chat.

Then Andy’s friend George arrived, bearing (a) a six pack of ginger beer (b) a bottle of dark rum (c) two women who were ready to hit the bottle. Also, he was wearing what might best be described as “goat dance pants.” They were furry, shin length loose trousers in a zebra pattern. At that point we had a critical mass of Australians, and they began to mix “dark and stormy”s. Here’s the recipe:

Dark and Stormy
(1) Fill a pilsner glass with ice
(2) Fill nearly to the top with rum
(3) Add a splash of ginger beer

Tasty, but dangerous.

More people arrived, including one of the other Fellows named “Vlad,” Vlad, through dark magic that I do not understand, brought three Romanian women with him. At this point, the party was in full swing, and we started a fire in the outdoor firepit and jumped in the hot tub. Midnight was counted down, fireworks were heard in the distance, and we settled in for the serious “Aussie vs. Romanian” drinking match. In the hot tub. Woah, nellie. When we left at around 2am, we had to make the rounds, kissing everyone in the hot tub goodnight.

I was a bit hung over this morning, but it’s hard to distinguish between the alcohol based suckage and the “you stayed out until 2 in the morning, and sat in an outdoor hot tub in the snow for, like 1.5 hours” suckage. I was a little shy about how I had behaved at the party, until I realized (due to certain physically impossible things that I remember doing) that I had been having wild, rum induced dreams about a party, in which I was much more crazy that I had been in real life. That’s right, my subconscious helped me out and made my life just a little bit more rock-star than it really was. Thanks brain!

Today, Jen and I spent about 3 hours cranking through our budget. Turns out that we spent less than we made in December! Yay!

As to resolutions: Per usual procedure, many shall remain classified. These can be publicly recorded:

Write at least one thing of substance per week. A short essay, a letter to a representative, a poem, just something. These are due on Sunday. They need not be shared with anyone, but I need to write them.

Create a budget with Jen. Reconcile it monthly. Use this process to increase charitable giving and savings without spiraling into debt.

Happy New Year.
